Les Toil

31 December 2009 Carita Ellis-Espola

Before introducing the artist, it should be noted that despite his foremost subject matter of choice, the term “chubby chaser” will not be used. I have also grown tired of the term “BBW”, as labels in general freak me out. I will say that if you’re hot, you’re hot; though it seems that society’s need to establish what “hot” is tends to exclude those of us who are “sufficiently padded”. Unless we also begin to actively circulate the term “stick fetchers” it doesn’t seem fair to categorize a whole group of people simply because they either have or enjoy some extra meat in their stew. People like Les Toil have found a way to celebrate the body beautiful by dedicating a large portion of his artistic ability to women with dangerous curves.

His job: find a willing, voluptuous muse and immortalize her on canvas. Once the work is complete, he lists it alphabetically with a plethora of other gorgeous gargantuan muses (why not GGM’s?), making it easy to find each by name. With a brilliantly laid out website, he captures the sweet, saucy, strong, feminine, charming sides of the women we too often find on the back burner of sexuality.

Where mainstream culture generally dismisses the idea of big and beautiful; like Colombian artist Fernando Bogoto, comedian Russell Brand, and rapper 50 Cent, Les Toil knows how to appreciate a big girl. Unlike the thousands of porn pimps out to make a buck off of something unusual, Les Toil captures the essence of real women through his “well proportioned works of bountiful beauty in thee most refined and vivid of fashions” as he puts it. Like his amazing paintings, Les is hot, and we’re not just talking about his pretty face. Les’ artwork has been featured in major motion pictures like ‘The Dark Backward’, ‘Detroit Rock City’, and ‘Barb Wire’ to name only a few.

On his site, he takes the time to acknowledge the work of Duane Bryers for his collection of the playful “Hilda”. Hilda was the first illustrated pin-up girl (who was also generously fleshed). We think Les’ humble shout out to his old school inspiration was quite cool.

If you are a BBW, GGM, Cushioned Cupcake, or whatever you like to call yourself (I don’t see the problem with hot fat babe), become a Toil Girl yourself! See your beautiful visage through Les’ eyes. He doesn’t scorn those crazy curves; he embraces them…one stroke at a time. Oooh naughty!
