Alice Russell-Like being punched in the face with 70′s soul!
In case you’ve never heard of Alice Russell, we’re giving you a heads up. She has quite an enigmatic voice and if she ever comes across the pond she could be quite dangerous to all of the insipid pop tarts on the airwaves right now. She’s Amy Winehouse without the drug addiction and Joss Stone with a little more experience under her belt. Her voice is raw, intense and airy all at the same time. The songs on ‘My Favourite Letters’ are all a little bit different and they will make you bob your head freely around, possibly moving you out of your seat to do a little dance. ‘Mirror Mirror on the Wolf’ puts you in a smoky jazz lounge filled with hot hipsters and people paying way too much for their drinks and not listening to the beautiful notes being laid out before them. Make sure you pay attention, because Alice Russell is a force to be reckoned with.
Other notable songs on the album: What We Want!, Remember To Forget, Humankind
And be on the lookout for the new album entitled ‘Pot Of Gold’. It will be available for mass consumption on November 24th.
Released via Little Poppet, it’s Alice’s fourth album to date, and comes hot on the heels of her recent collaboration with Mr. Scruff ‘Music Takes Me Up’.
‘Pot Of Gold’ is a rare, bold and adventurous undertaking for Alice. Rare for a female artiste as this is the first release on her own Little Poppet label, and is packed with intrigue, wit and style.
Alice’s sound has been distilled, encompassing live strings, horns and piano to compliment the intimate and uplifting shift in her new material.
